I have started my scenary finally!
I used the plaster cloth from WS. The question is: What type of paint can I use? (water soluable?)
    Does it need primer?
    Thanks for your help!
    Jeff

    Jeff:

I use earth tones washes that are water soluble.

I brush on the washes until I obtain the base coat for the area I'm modeling.

The JJJ&E is a mountainous railroad and I used burnt umber, raw umber, raw sienna, burnt sienna, black white and ochre washes to obtain the color I wanted for the plaster.

You can also use this technique for coloring rock castings.

    Have fun. [IMG]

    Ditto.

You probably will be using some sort of ground cover, as well.

I learned about halfway through building my railroad to color the plaster before adding water to the mix by using brown powdered color for concrete. This way, those ugly white spots don't show if the paint and plaster get chipped.

I use acrylic artist's tube colors and mix them thoroughly, often dipping my brush in more than one on the palette while painting. Unlike some others, I do paint some plaster green, then apply matte medium and foliage over that. I find you can get more variation in color without having to apply the ground foam as heavily.

That is what I have done to the low landforms in the above picture. Pink foam, dark green paint and then ground cover.
