Of course, the WP silver and orange was a classic, but the last paint scheme that WP had wasn't bad. While it wasn't that original, it sure had more visibility than the first green and orange. For that reason I liked it best. The all orange pumpkin paint scheme's didn't do much for me. Anyone else have an opinion?

I agree with the silver/orange scheme. It may have been a bear to keep looking half decent but it did look nice.
As for the subsequent schemes, I don't particularly like them. One standout was the oddball F7 in Orange and black - different! [IMG]

Since I haven't figured out the posting of pictures here yet, I will post my unoffical web page of the Tidewater Southern. The TS was owned by the WP.

I like the orange and silver, but no so much on those high nose units. It looked better on units with low noses. And I've seen pictures of the green with orange that made the green look black. For quite awhile I thought they were black, and now that I've seen the green, I think they should have gone with black instead.

That was the only unit to make it into that version of yellow paint, unlike many MP units that made it into yellow paint. That unit also didn't last long since it wasn't rebuilt or a new GP40-2. UP was quick to unload them. UP did how ever repaint a number of GP9's and all of the GP35's into yellow but they were lettered for UP.

    2010? WP had 10 GP20's, numbered 2000-2009! This is a ring-in. Is it a low-nose?
As Mike mentioned above, in some shots the green looks black. It is green, close to Pullman green.

Hey Gats, go to the WP site and check out the pictures...The site states that the WP had units numbered 2001-2006...Then they have two pictures of two GP-20s #2007-2010.I guess it's not for me to figure out.... [IMG]

WP did indeed have 10 high nose GP20's, 2001-2010. WP 2001 is in Woodland CA on loan from the museum in Portola CA. It has been repainted into the silver and orange. WP 2010 was the only unit to get painted into the new image paint. I knew the painter and he really liked the new paint scheme since it was less work to mask off. Here is a picture of WP2001 before it went to Woodland to work on the Yolo Short Line. http://tsrr.railfan.net/wp2001.jpg
Here is a picture of WP 2009 and 2006 in the last green and orange before the new image. http://tsrr.railfan.net/wp2009.jpg
I find the color of CNW's dark green is real close to the WP green. Early WP units did turn almost black and then a dark blue hue from the chemicals used in washing them.

Well, I'll be... Thanks for the correction. I was working off information from my WP modelling friend that 2009 was the last unit.
My assumption was they started from 2000 - so much for assumptions! [IMG] Maybe he meant it was the last "running" GP20 on the WP?

Thanks for the link to 2009. I currently have a high-hood GP20 on the workbench to become 2009, but seeing that particular unit made the later paint, I might contact the intended recipient to see if he would prefer it in that instead of the silver/orange.

Thanks again for the straightening-out. [IMG]

WP 2009 did get the yellow paint and I believe the number 448. I didn't last long due to a couple of factors. It had an equipment failure and was side lined. About the time it would have been shopped the UP purged their fleet of GP7's, GP9's and GP20's.
