Was looking at a photo this morning. And I could not remember- When were the so-called "PAC Man" colors first used? Boxcab E50
I have a link to a CP website, seems pretty thorough. Hope it answers your question. http://www.trainweb.org/galt-stn/cproster/paint.htm RED ROCK
Red Rock- It certainly is detailed. Somebody did a lot of researching! Problem is, I have no idea where things fit for me. I was looking at a box car in that "PAC Man" scheme, and wondering if it would fit into my modeled era. Which cuts off at 1968. Nice looking cars. But should I add it to the fleet? Boxcab E50
Boxcab E50- How stringent are you about that cut off date? From what I've read CP introduced the multi-mark logo in 1968.Pac-man remained until 1988, when the insignia was dropped and just "CP Rail" remained. Out of curiosity, what type of boxcar are you looking to add? RED ROCK
Red Rock- I have a slight flex in my time frame. Primarily, I want to keep it in the years prior to the mega mergers. Which began with Penn Central, but truly started it's wild run in 1970 with BN. So, definitely pre- 1970. The car that caused my inquiry, was a 40 SD box car. Am a big fan of the days when these were dominant. Used for grain and lumber loading. With roofwalks, etc. My wishes are probably greatly influenced by the fact those were the years of my youth, etc. Boxcab E50
Boxcab E50- I'd say if it brings good memories, run it. Although I haven't seen a photo, I would think something would have needed repainting in '68 or '69. Bonus, you can run it really clean with that new paint job. There has got to be some CP experts out there who know for sure. Here is another link, it didn't have a photo from the year your looking for but has some really nice CP rolling stock photos. http://freight.railfan.ca/cprail.html Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
I found one of the cars photographed in the link you just provided: http://freight.railfan.ca/cprail/cp51916.jpg This paint scheme is the one I was wondering of a date for first use. Boxcab E50
