I had not realised that there were overhead wires into Paddington station, London. (Saw a pic of a Heathrow Express, with the overhead wires evident). Does anyone know if this for the Heathrow Express trains, or do the wires extend further west?
They are solely for the HEx service at the moment. All four tracks are wired and go to just beyond Airport Junction, (just past Hayes & Harlington stationm and where the Airport spur diverges). I say just beyond because the down main is electrified past the junction with a set of crossovers to the relief lines as an escape track just in case somebody mis-routes a Heathrow train some time! If they ever get to building Crossrail, then the electrification should get extended out to Reading at least.
Thanks Martyn, thought it was something like that. It just looked strange to see wires at Paddington, and wondered if I had missed something
It was that overhead system which they think helped contribute to the Ladbroke Grove disaster, obscuring the view to a large number of signals.
As to the last reply-you hit the nail onthe head there. However, all management continue to deny this including the chap that planned it out in the first place. I shall be away for a week or so,but get back to me after 29 of Oct and I tell you more! Best wishes Steve Cooper
