Where I can find pictures of the Espee PMT Lines? I am about to decal some of the Daylight red and orange trucks, so I wanted some prototype info. I have one truck that is completely red although it is not Daylight Red and not Espee scarlet. I am pretty sure it was a prototype but I am not sure where I saw that one. I am interested in the earlier trucks before the silver paint scheme.

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I was surprised that I could not find any pictures. I just went by the directions in the decals.

One More Question on Espee Pup Trailers

Photo of all-red trailer and daylight trailer:

The all red trailer was made over 10 years ago. At that time, I used the Microscale decal set 60-4027, I think. I am definitely using 60-4027 at this time. Notice that the stripes on the all-red trailer are silver. I cannot find any decal set at this time that has the silver stripes.

Next question. What color red is the all-red trailer? It is not Daylight Red. It's too dark for Espee Scarlet. I hope you can tell the difference in the photo. The reason I ask is that when I first made the red pup trailer, I was working with Chuck Short of Ultimate N Scale. Chuck really knows these old truck types, so I think what I have is an accurate color.

I know that Chuck won a bunch of awards at Portland N scale convention, 2009. Anyone know what company he is working for now? I would like to contact him.

Continuing my reasearch on this subject...:D

Check Short has an article, Intermodal: 1050's Style, in N Scale Railroading magazine, March/April 2001, Issue no. 004. It has some good model photos of this intermodal era for Espee, NP, UP, GN, MP, Western Maryland, and ATSF.

I thought that the Espee Historical Society Trainline magazine would have an article, but I couldn't find it.

Chuck says that the roof of the Espee trucks were black.

SPHS Trainline magazine covered PMT/SPT/SWT in issues 42, 43, and 46...a three part series by Tony Thompson. Issue 46 was in 1996, so it has been a few years. On the Espee Yahoo groups, Tony Thompson wrote that there was no response for information about PMT operations, so he never completed the fourth part. The information I am reading on Espee Yahoo Groups is from January, 2009, so I don't know if there has been an update.

These three issues do have photos.

    Flash,

I have a book titled "Southern Pacific Color Guide to Freight and Passenger Equipment" Volume 1 by Anthony W. Thompson. It has lots of pictures of early intermodal equipment. It shows all kinds of tractors in red and red/orange schemes. As far as trailers they are mostly later schemes in silver variations. It even shows the auto trailers that Chuck produced at one time.

This book my be of help to you. I have an extra copy that is still shrink wrapped. I'm willing to part with it if you're interested.

Dave: I'll pass on the purchase at this time, but thanks for your offer.

I read some of the reviews for this book and it does point out that there are a lot of "rubber tired" photos in that volume.
