What a great resource! I'm so glad I found this site. I just got back into things recently after more than 35 years. I probably never would have left if something like this had been around back then. I've been putting together an N layout that I can put on my kitchen's long bar and have some fun with. I told myself that all I really wanted to do was make a long dog bone so I can watch the trains run. But what I've found is that I want to build some locomotives, and that means switching to HO because my eyes just aren't what they used to be. Adding is probably a more appropriate term, since I see no reason to get rid of my N stuff. When I first became fascinated by trains back in the mid 1970s, my uncle bought me a copy of Railroad Model Craftsman. That issue featured an article and photos on full-sized kitbashing that the real railroads were doing, repowering various locomotives with other powerplants and different hoods. I guess the many long hours I spent studying every inch of that magazine had more of an effect on me than I realized because here I sit cutting into my first shells. If my first effort doesn't look too bad, I'll post some photos.
Hi ValleyGuy, Welcome to the Train Board, glad to have on board. It will be interesting seeing your kit bashing efforts regardless of which scale.
Welcome aboard. I think it would be great to see the results of your modification no matter how you feel it turns out. It could easily inspire others to try something similar and gain you some (hopefully) valuable feedback in the process. So what is the project?
