I just received the new MRR

    1. Trackside photos don't even have one N scale shot.

    2. There are at least two pictures in the magazine that are repeat shots of older ones that I have seen somewhere, probably MRR. Don't they have a gaggle of shots that could be featured that aren't repeats?

Are there any others that anyone has picked up on?

I always notice the lack of N Scale. duped pictures have no excuse. Not even "well it's summer and the staff is ...."
Thanks for ruining it even more for me.

I know of a bunch, and they're N scale, too. Lou Sassi took dozens of shots of my layout for GMR, only a handful of which were used. Many of the extras are pefectly fine Trackside Photo contenders. Oh well.

And now you know why I don't subscribe to MR. Got to wonder? Fair and balanced they aren't.

    What about my Scale?

Don't be bickering over the lack of N scale photos, heck when, if ever, do they post photos of Z scale layouts and modules???? Hmmmm!!!

I must confess though, got my MR today to and as I glanced through it I did notice a few familiar photos. What gives MR????? I am not subscribing for the fun of it!!!!

Something I find amusing, when ever I see an article for a loco servicing area, the diagrams are ALWAYS for steam locos. Coal, water, ashpits, sand!!! Why doesn't anyone make an article with diagrams and photos of Modern Diesel Service Facilities????? Fuel, Lubs, sand, and whatever else they need?????

I know of another bunch, taken by me. Oh, I guess I've withdrawn them by now.

Its Christmas every month at MRR (HO HO HO). Thats why I get N Scale and N Scale Railroading, IMHO they are both getting better as MRR gets worse. But I've noticed there seems to be less of everything in MRR these days, compare the number of pages in the latest issue with any from the seventies or eighties.

As far as ever opening a MR mag and finding anything related to N scale We are all dreamers!!! I think the last N scale layout featured in MR was done by Gary Coleman or was that Rodney Allen Rippy? I still get them confused!!!But I due love the video of him hanging off the windshield wipers in his secruity uniform..what a hoot!! I think the best comparision between MR and N scale is like a son trying all his life to be accepted by his father. It just never will happen but the thought of either things happining keep your hopes up. Lets face it MR don't want n scalers they have the largest segment of model Railroaders in HO'ers.

Well I have an idea , show more pictures here . We should be overflowing with shots , but there are not as many as I would think to expect . I am a fairly new poster here , and as such I am unsure of the rules of picture posting . How about it Fotheringill , maybe start a weekly thread ?

Richie - the "rules" on picture posting are pretty straight forward. Keep in mind that this is a family forum and for the most part try to keep the images consistent with the topic of the thread. Feel free to start your own threads for what ever subject or reason you like.
"The Pictures I Want to Share Today"
works for me though usually I disguise it under some fancy title. One I'm thinking of is:
    "Unfinished and Imperfect"
For those who want to share the less than competitive work _without_ apologizes.

I agree with you about MR for the most part, BUT.... You need to read the text in the trackside photos :teeth: page 100 bottom center is an N scale layout. And no one noticed the article on building a 9'x12' Railroad in N Scale this month?

I let my sub to MR lapse many moons ago. I just only pick one up if it seems interesting.

I will say this, if I see one more shot and related text about how Utah Railway operates Modern power I think I'll blow chunks. well, not really but you get my point LOL

    Another flaccid MR...

My wife re-uped my subscription till the end of time, so I guess I'll keep getting HO Model Railroader... Maybe, just maybe, there's hope...

...but when I come home from work, and there's the new MR, and I can pretty much soak the whole thing in before dinner time the same day, that's sad.

I used to spend days absorbing it.

Nothing off color or what may be construed as the same by any community standards, liberal or conservative. Kids are lurking.

Please mosey over to the Inspection Pit. We have weekly postings.

Hobo, for the fun of it is why I do anything related to Model Railroading. As a guy who likes 50's and HO, I thought the magazine had definitely begun to tilt toward the N crowd. David Popp's home railroad is N and it gets loads of attention, recently a big spread on how a fellow planned his N Scale to fit his new room.

The even throw in O and G gauge layouts along the way.

As for steam, the coverage of steam vs Diesel seems way slanted to Diesel as it should. Seems that not all of us in our 60's have the same strong and vivid memories of puffer bellies like Joe Daddy does.

I like MR and look forward to it each month. N Scaler Popp just got a big promotion there, so I'd say the N crowd is in.

    Richie,

Our Weekend Foto Fun runs every weekend in the Inspection Pit.

In general, photo activity here seems to ebb and flow, ebbing in the summer. I also suspect a number of the more prolific photo posters are sitting on articles right now. At least I am.

There are a lot of images at our Railimages site. And a good number of members have photo-intensive blogs.

There's an old MR article from way back that covers this subject. A while back I spent money to download this article from the MR archive as a PDF file. The quality of the photo was so horrible that it was useless to me. I wrote MR: What gives? I asked. Back they wrote: "The article was scanned. It's the best we can do." I was in disbelief. These are the guys who seem to be telling us that the best layouts are the ones that people have spent the most money on, and they can't figure out how to provide their customers with usable photos?

I had to find the old magazine myself--which ended up being less expensive than downloading their PDF.

I've voiced my dislike of the modern version of MR here before. Even so, I have to give credit where credit is due: this month's issue looks a LOT better to me than previous issues. I'd been eagerly awaiting the departure of the chief editor, and so far I'm still feeling hopeful for better things ahead. And now with David Popp as managing editor, N scale has a real voice.

I can't believe dedicated N-Scalers still subscribe to MR. I quit them years ago. I only buy when there is a very good N article or other layout that sparks and interest.

I whole heartedly support N-scale and NSR magazines.
