    Thank you for your input on this subject matter. It totally makes sense to me. I am not disputing that On30 looks more toy like than On3. To me a scale model is a scale model. Unless the train is sold in a set and your can find it at Toys R Us or an Ace Hardware, then it more than likely is for a moderate hobbyist.

    Chris' publication, the On30 Annual, showcases a lot of excellent On30 modeling as well.

    There are certainly some "toylike" sorts of folks in On30, but at the Pacific Model Loggers' Congress in March one of our own PNW-On30 Modular guys picked up a couple of first place prizes in a few categories with his very well-detailed models. I think he picked up some of the NNGC prizes later in Pasadena that Chris just mentioned. The gap has pretty much closed. You'll always find some guy somewhere who is super toylike or super proto in whatever scale you look at, but On30 is well beyond the "toylike-only" stage.
