...They just get turned into tool sheds! UP, Cheyenne, WY: This: Is now this: Got any pics of freight cars in other than revenue service?
Should have been sent to a RR musem for preservation! I doubt there are many left in any older MKT paint! Boxcab E50
Ken, At least it ain't in a scapyard, awaiting the torch, and the future of becoming another Asian import car... Here's a better one, one you will appreciate... Max, ND on the DMVW:
Ex- Milwaukee Road ribside boxcar used a storage at a tire store north of Heavener, OK (more than a few miles from any MILW track, but 50 yards from the KCS mainline): Somewhere back home I have a shot of an old B&O wagontop boxcar used as a storage shed in Heavener, but it'll have to wait until October when I return to Texas.
How recent is that photo? Boxcab E50 </font>[/QUOTE]Oct. '04.... Same trip as when this was captured at Garrison, ND, 20 miles south of Max:
Boxcars used for storage NS abandon the line in Virginia Beach, VA in 2004. But as long as I can remeber these boxcars have been siting here. They are parked around back of a warehouse built but the origonal NS and is now a strip mall with a hobby store inside. For more pictures http://williamgrimes.rrpicturearchives.net/
Seeing the powerlines along that right of way, has me wondering. Was there ever an electrified operation? Often, when I've seen such wires, in the past there'd been some sort of at least an interurban RR. ??? Boxcab E50
This was at one time Norfolk Southern's electric line and was used for trolley service from downtown Norfolk (waterside area) over to the Beach. But I don't think that the powerlines in my photo were the ones used by the railroad...could be thought? Hampton Road Transit (a local bus company) wants to run a light rail on this line now it is abandon, the City of Norfolk and NS have plans on starting this project soon. However, the City of Virginia Beach wants to buy the section of track in their city and have it's own Light Rail, they have met a lot of resistance!
I had a feeling. What often happened, is when an electric operation quit, their transmission lines were aquired by a utility company. Along with at least part of the r-o-w. And at a later date, even upgraded. Out here, the Milwaukee Road former electric transmission lines still exist in many stretches. Now owned by local or regional power companies. Got any more info on that electric operation? Might make an interesting thread, for a Fallen Flag Forum! Boxcab E50
