Since G&W has taken over this railroad i figured it would be a good idea to display some of my pics. the conrail super 7 locos was taken in zanesville, ohio along with the ballast cars (both of which are former conrail). the other photo was taken in newark, ohio . that is ohcr gp40-2 along with an ex atsf GE
that first photo was taken on the wheeling and lake erie south of mingo jct. i never got the train ID for this pic, but my guess is maybe the OHCR leased these to the WE?
OHCR in Youngstown, OH The first few pics were taken in and near Norfolk Southern's Haselton Yard. This is the main yard that the OHCR interchanges in Youngstown. The last pic is of engine #1501 a former P&LE passenger engine, seen at csx's Ohio Junction yard. This yard used to be about 12 tracks large and now only consists of three tracks. this is the main interchange for csx and it is common to see pipe trains sitting in this yard
Ohio Central cars in Fostoria, OH These cars came off the Ohio Central Youngstown Lines at the Ohio Junction yard. the car initials are MVRY (Mahoning Valley Railway) and YB (Youngstown Belt Railroad). Here they are seen rolling westbound on the old b&o in fostoria, ohio.
One correction that i just learned of is the ex P&L gp10 and attached power belong to the Youngstown and Southeastern railroad. This new shortline runs over the ex Ohio Central Youngstown and Southern line. The owner of this railroad is Indiana Boxcar.
Nice pics corporaldan. I live in northern Ohio and all I see up here is NS and CSX. Sometimes I catch some U.P. action and BNSF but I'm not a fan of the BNSF I do like the U.P. But all I see here is mostly NS and CSX. I wish I could see a few other rail roads besides NS and CSX.
Jerry Jacobson will keep all his steam locomotives and a handful of equipment and was given some land along the right of way overlooked by his house, and is building a roundhouse to house the locomotives and it will eventually become a small museum of sort.
Sounds great. I am wondering, the way their statement is written on that site, it does not seem as though it will be regional. Am I guessing correctly, they will be essentially gathering from any place available? North America? Boxcab E50
The site will not have any track of their own other then what is around the roundhouse. The line running next to the roundhouse is now owned by G&W and they do not want to run any steam powered excursions. They will allow the steam locomotives to pull a freight train however on rare occasions. The locomotives will also be towed to other locations to be used. The Cayahoga Valley is one railroad that has used the OC steam locomotives before and I am sure will again. If anything, the OC steam locomotives will have a very nice place to call home for many years.
Jerry- Back to my original question- Any hints on how or from where they plan on gathering their equipment? Will it be more "local" in focus? Regional? From many varied sources spread across North America? Boxcab E50
