Thought somebody out there might be interested. Saw an Ohio Central System loco in Roseville this morning. Was quite hidden so no pics or even what type. Units number started with a 5 and it appeared to be an SD of some sort.
Must have made a wrong turn. And got lost? Would the OC lease power to another RR? Or possibly this was a former unit, heading to a new owner? Perhaps Jerry will have an answer for this one? Boxcab E50
Just wish I coulda gotten a pic. Would make a great addition to my collection! Anybody know where I can find a roster for the OC?
The Ohio Central has 12 SD40-2's on lease to the Union Pacific for 6 months, at this time. The unit you saw in Roseville was probably the 5855. It is one of the few painted in OC's paint job. Most of the leased units are still painted in Union Pacific colors. They were purchased from the UP, but before they could make it to Ohio, the UP became power short, and asked to lease the units for six months. Hemi caught the 5855 heading west some time ago. Looks like she finally made it out there!
That's a really nice paint scheme! I realize there is cost involved. So that many companies keep it simple these days. But this one has some class! Boxcab E50
5855 is an interesting looking unit - anyone know the heritage of it? Looks like it might be ex-CP, from the weird looking sandfiller, odd-length nose (102"?), the lifting eyes on the end plates, and the weird stepwells.
I wonder if UP checked to see how many locomotives they needed before they started selling them off. Frank
