Recently heard something about the OC F units headin north. OC Engineer JD got any further info?? Whys, wheres, etc.
Yes, they are going to CP to be used on the Royal Canadian Pacific luxury train. I ran these units many times, and they were beautiful.
Im surprised we didn't hear much more about this. F units on the move usually would bring out all the fans and flood the net with pics.
Is the OC getting away from "tourist" type operations? Still hosting any steam excursions? Boxcab E50
Yes they are. Bill Strawn, the OC President once told me that passenger trains are just 'fluff' and freight is the OC's future. He had made it clear to me several times he did not like the steam program and has been overheard many times talking about doing away with the OC's passenger trains. It is a real shame too, as Jerry Jacobson really is one of the leaders in modern tourism passenger service.
Railpace? Hadn't heard them mentioned in ages. Didn't believe they were still in business. mg: Boxcab E50
Sadly, it's just another case where the President/CEO keeps his/her job as long as the stockholder's share prices increase and the company continues to pay dividends. But they lose sight that good community PR and favorable public opinion also pays big dividends, especially with employee morale and on Wall Street. The Claytor brothers sure understood that with the Southern and Norfolk & Western companies, but they were about the last ones in the RR business.
Exactly. Hank has it right on. I was just about to post a similar sentiment. It's so true. Especially with the mega-size, mega dollar companies. They just don't care. And overtly show it. Then can't understand why the populations resist their plans, or presence. It used to be smart business, keeping a friendly connection to those folks around you. These days, too many businesses are anything but smart! Boxcab E50
