I noted that the last few days that "this advertising space now available..." images at the bottom of each thread. A half-dozen ads currently run from any one page, so how much does it cost to run your servers, and are the extra ads really necessary for those who already support TB?

I know TB needs money for stuff, but this yellow box WITHIN the post just looks awful. It makes it look now like Jim is trying to sell ad space, and pretty soon I am sure it will appear in mine. We have ads at the top and ads at the bottom. I click through and look at them often and buy things from advertisers. I would prefer that ads not show up WITHIN the post.

That's pretty much the model of railpictures.net That place is not only soaked with ads, its soaked with even worse - popups. Membership gets rid of that. They make it so annoying its worth it...

And that's probably worth it here. I don't want ads in my posts. It appears that I put them there. Don't like that at all. If it HAS to go there it darn well better say 'trainboard advertising not affiliated to member'

I agree, Ads in the posts actually offends me. It implies that I am the one doing the selling.
    That is not acceptable.

Some forums will place and add in line as a post in the thread, but it is clear that it is an ad not related to any member. That would offend me less.

Looks like it stays within the last post of the thread. Still, I don't like it either (unless someone wants to help sponsor my daughter's upcoming wedding -- can always use help with that!)

There back! But at least right now not as obnoxious as those Yellow Boxes were... Still I wonder were the site is going with all these "Ad Space" things show up... :(

I bet you guys would not worry about them if you clicked on the add and received a discount just because you started from Trainboard.

LOL - I can understand / respect that answer!!!!!! :cute:

For me I would hope that the charm of TB would not be lost as being fairly "Ad Free" but to do that requires the membership to show their support to keep the site going by putting $$$ into the site otherwise expect the site to go away like Atlas did. But, at the end of the day to pay the bills you/Charlie has do what you have to do or go under. I just hope the "extra" Ads don't drive away folks that might be the subscribers you need to help pay those bills. Did you get a chance to look at the 4x4 forum I mentioned earlier (http://www.clubxterra.org/forums/register.php) as a way to limit Ads being see by subscribers and thus maybe more folks would become subscribers?

I do not see any of what your discussing.
Most likely it's because I use ad block on my browser for all web sites.
So unless the ad is directly from the site and not a third party ad is the only time it shows.
Since I have never bought anything off of any website advertising even before Ad Block I can not be relied on for any click through income for sites.

I do see links to other web sites such as the retailers listing here.

    I think this makes sense.
