Ok here is a question for all of you, perhaps the answer is easier than I think, but I have never seen any, so here goes: Does anyone make N scale buffalo?? Need some for the layout and if no one makes them in N I'll have to make them by hand !! Happy Modeling!! John
I'm going to say........yes. The reason why I say is is-In the ModelRailroad Planning 2001 issue, The cover layout uses Buffalo. (If not the cover layout, another one in there, but it is N scale.
John AFAIK no one makes N Buffalo Preiser does have a set of N cows, shown as in stock at Walthers. You'd have to use modeling putty to build up the carcass and add the shaggy coat See this URL for photo/price info http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/590-79155 Noch also makes N cows, shown as in stock at Walthers See this URL for photo/price info http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/528-36720 Mooooo DB
Bisonically speaking, there is one more, not carried by Walthers Merten also makes N cows No photo but see this URL for stock number 52407 and price http://www.frontiernet.net/~noela/mer.htm Ordering info at this URL http://www.frontiernet.net/~noela/ 8=) DB
Ok, I'm home now. Let's see (looking in magazine) Here it is, page 10, a herd of buffalo. The article doesn't say where he got them, but he has 10 of them grazing Cool pic, with a SOO SD60M cruising by. And his layout is called "Moose Lake". Hmmmm.
Moose Ya got me 8=) I had bought the magazine myself about 10 days ago but did not the recall the buffalo in the photo. This oNetrak module set is the work of Bernard Kempinski, whose work has been featured in many of the model RR magazines. Instead of unleashing a flood of email to him, I'll post his internet homepage here, which does have a link to his email address. Please visit "The New River Subdivision" which chronicles the history, both prototype and model, of the C&O in the New River area of West Virginia. Thanks guys. Yeah I have checked everywhere for these and thought about modifying a cow. I believe those in the magazine are modified cows. I believe I can hand carve one from plaster...once carved a bald eagle for my HO layout, a bison in N can't be much harder ??!!?? Happy Modeling and thanks for the help. John
Yes there was (is?) company that did produce some bison I know because I had bought a pair at a train show about seven years ago. They also offered at that time a prospecter and his to pack mules. What the company's name was I don't know now. But they were white metal castings and quite detailed.
Had not thought about metal castings!! I'll check around and see if I can find them. I carved a buffalo laying down out of wood. Not bad if I do say so myself!! (still wouldn't mind figures though!!). Happy Modeling!! John
Hey John, Found your buffalo!! They are at www.musketminiatures.com Click on the Rustic Rails icon and eventually you will have to look under the Spirit of the Plains Series. It is part number NOW3175. Hope this helps.
Thanks Rod!! I appreciate your taking the time to "hunt bison!!" . I will check them out immediately!! Happy Modeling!! John
Instead of Buffalo why not use the circular paper punches you get from punching holes in paper with a two or three hole punch to represent buffalo chips. You could sprinkle a lot of them around to represent a whole hers of buffalo that moved thru and save the expense of buying all those buffalo!
