I just finished watching a pretty neat TV piece on the NYC subway system on the Discovery Channel (it was part of the series "Extreme Engineering"), and it also showed the stations affected by 9-11. It also mentioned plans by the city to build a new line deep underneath the existing systems.

Kinda curious- with the hoopla over city budgets, where would the money come from to build this project? It ain't cheap boring thru granite, and TBMs aren't a dime a dozen either.

Believe it or not , the city builds most of it's great public projects using good old municipal bonds and private investment. They also know how to squeeze money from the feds so, even when everyone is starving on the streets....the city keeps on growing.

If you are talking about the freight tunnel that they plan to build , I believe that the Port Authority would foot the bill. They get their money by not paying rents on their airports! :D :D :D

The expansion and the WTC area transit renovation, including the new downtown hub being planned is through a combination of Federal funds (a portion of the special $20B presidential rebuilding fund, Federal transportation funds, and bonds to cover matching fund requirements.

    Rush2ny,

I am in the lower Hudson Valley (Rockland County). My job requires involvment with various governmental agencies, consequently, where the money comes from is important to know.
