Hi folks. I noticed something as I have been assembling my collection of NYC locomotives; I do not have anything to go on the other end! There are no models made of the NYC 19000 series caboose, probably the most recognizable caboose in railroading. There is a MT offset cupola caboose which is... eh. If you had been swimming in a pool with way too much chlorine in it for a few hours, might look sort of similar? My goal is to make one (for now) of those Micro Trains cabooses into a proper NYC 19000 series caboose! I've ordered some Evergreen n scale car siding with .5mm wide board spacing, which is perfect for the body, and the roof is thankfully quite plain. However, the 4 board roofwalks and the trucks are a bit of a sticking point yet; the MT caboose comes with normal freight car trucks, and the NYC caboose had leaf spring trucks (I dunno what they're called, sadly) typical of many cabooses. Anyone know of solutions for either of these issues in N scale? All the best! Amanda
You might want to see if the kit shown on the following page is still available: http://raybob.boche.net/page0000.htm http://raybob.boche.net/main.htm See if any of the trucks shown on the following page might be suitable: http://www.spookshow.net/trucks/trucks.php
I have five of these wood caboose kits and they were a challenge to build but the result was greats and the look was great when you consider that almost everything is made from laser cut wood and that includes the end rails. I did use the recommended trucks by Atlas to put under them. The series I built were the little 25 foot GN type. Some of my best looking cabooses.
I did not know these existed! I will contact them and make sure they're available. Thanks much! I will still probably bash my MT caboose into... something. Thanks folks!
