BN rebuilt 4 NW2's in 1975-76 into NW12's. I thought this might be a fun project using the Kato NW2 (N scale) a starting point. I can not seem to find any retierment dates for them though, I do not think they made it to BNSF so when did BN retire them?

Interesting question. Surely someone from the FOBNR group would know?

What are the external spotting differences?

The last remaining NW2u or NW12, BN 14 was retired in June of '92. Originally GN 5317, GN 117, BN 464, and BN 14. Built in 1939 and rebuilt in February of 1975. The four units that were rebuilt were all GN. #'s 5302, 5306, 5317, 5322. BN #'s 1, 5, 14, and 19. Roller bearings in the trucks were one of the differences.

The front headlight looks like the SW15/MP15 style, also the side doors have louvers which the Kato NW2 does not, and a battery? box door under the cab window.

One "did" make it to the BNSF, as the 3310. I think it was the BN 5. It is shown in the BNSF 1995 annual (as the 5, not the 3310).
    I have no later issues.
