Does anyone know the story behind this unit, I think it is NP SW1200 #105 but the date of the picture is 1995, and the stack cars in the background lead me to belive that the date is correct. Is this a BN unit or someone eles's? The fact that it is hauling a boxcar (aircar) around makes me think it is a BN owned unit as they normaly do not use private loco's to switch the yards.

Looking at the paint, it looks to be in good shape. I cannot envision why they'd have repainted so long after 1970. Or if untouched, that it's paint would be in such decent condition. Plus not renumbered, with the white BN stencil on cab sides.

Gotta believe something else was happening. I do recall post merger, an RS3 was repainted, then used as part of a law suit. (Last saw it in Simon & Son's Tacoma scrap yard.) Could a similar scenario be at play here?

    Interesting mystery!

Wow! What a find! I subscribed to this thread so I don't miss what the story is.

After 25 years, it's hard to believe the paint would have held up.

I seen 3 color photos of this unit pulling a fan train with GN smoothside, an NP heavyweight coaches, and an NP heavyweight baggage car. Those were undated, but the dress of the people and hair styles look 80's-90's, and the paint is immaculate. Even the cut levers were freshly painted white.

It is a re-painted Lake Superior Terminal & Transportation SW1200 #105, on it's way to the Minnesota Transportation Museum as NP #105. The original NP #105 was an NW2, I believe. Look closer; it is not coupled into the boxcar.

Yes, NP #105 was a NW2 now that I do a little research.
