Does anyone have a photo of the NP 67900 - 67908 centerbeam bulkhead flatcars from 1969? They became BN 624070 - 624078. These cars have vertical elongated hexagonal cutouts in the centerbeam and were likely the first centerbeam cars. Thanks in advance.
I have never heard of threse cars. I did not know NP had any centerbeam bulkheads. Now it is quite possible that these cars were ordered by the NP and assigned a number series on the roster and were delivered post March 1970 and were delivered in BN, much the same way as the last order of GN F-45's were. Also lets not forget the EMD GP-38 that was ordered by the SP&S and delivered in green and black by EMD and this locomotive later became the Pacific Pride loco #2075.
Hope this works, scroll about halfway down the page to "NOKL 624076" Type: Centerbeam Flat Builder: Thrall Lineage: ex-BN 624070-624078, ex-NP 67900-67908 http://www.railcarphotos.com/Search.php?SearchExFeet=72&Search=Search You have to register to get a larger picture.
These cars are in an NP equipment diagram book, showing the hexagonal holes and series 67900 - 67904. I scratch-built an HO model of the BN car; now, if I can find a photo in NP livery, I want to do another. Thanks for the NOKL photo with the car obviously in BN paint and BN number series. I wonder if the NP cars were in NP brown or already splashed with BN green.
Here's a shot of the NP equipment diagram book: Wood Chip Rack Car Diagrams - Wood Rack Cars 66 Ft. Center Beam 67900-904
You are correct, those 1969 Thrall 66' Diamond Window Centerbeam cars were the first centerbeam cars made. 9 cars were built then, as well as some 83' centerbeam cars for SAL. Centerbeam cars vaporized after that until 1977, when the 62' Opera Window cars came out. I have 5 photos that someone emailed me several years ago, all in their Black NP paint. NP only had 5 of these cars, 67900-67904, with the other 4 going to a different company in 1969. I have the e-book on centerbeams at home, showing full disposition of these cars. After BN repainted them green, I had seen 1 photo on the web with lettering locations, but it is no longer posted. Fortunetaly, I made decals for them then, so email me, and I can send you the lettering drawings, as well as the scaled diamond window centerbeam drawing. I made a special study of Centerbeams, and have 19 different body styles of them in Z Scale, including the 66' Trall cars in BN and NP schemes. I'm a centerbeam nut.
