The NP at Teanaway, Washington, (Pronounced "tee ANNA way."), had something a little rare on the east-west main line. This was a short stretch of double track. Not a siding.

Of course things changed long ago.... I'm hoping that someone would know when the double track there was eliminated? Anyone got an old employee timetable or two?

Where was this stretch of double track and how long was it?

The NP had quite a bit double track on the east-west main. At Spokane, through the city to Irvin. In Montana from DeSmet to Garrison about 75 miles and at Helena from Tobin to Helena, 5 miles. Also Bozeman to Livingston except for Bozeman Tunnel, about 25 miles.
At Billings from Spurling to East Billings 20-25 miles or so.

Also the NP had two main tracks between Paradise MT and Livingston except for Bozeman tunnel--about 300 miles. This was a combination of two mains and double track sections. Two lines from Paradise to DeSmet. Double track DeSmet to Garrison. Two lines Garrison to Logan. Two lines Logan to Bozeman. Double track Bozeman to west portal Bozeman tunnel. Double track east portal Bozeman tunnel to Livingston.

Also there were sections of double track east of Montana. But you are right that the NP was generally considered a single main track line.

Teanaway was the first station east of Cle Elum, WA. After that would be Bristol.

Not certain how this double track was built. I'd like to know. Am wondering if at one time it extended east from Cle Elum to Teanaway? Or was it just at Teanaway? And when was it removed?

It could not have gone any further east than Teanaway, as there was only a single track bridge over the Teanaway River.

Not necessarily Boxcab.Often times Dbl tracks were run through a Single track bridge using a Gauntlet. It would make an interesting operating area having a gauntlet i should say [IMG]

True. In similar situations, a gauntlet track would have been possible. Although out here in the northwest, they were uncommon.

In the situation I wonder of, on the east side of the Teanaway River bridge, there is no room for another track. On the south side of the bridge, the Teanaway River almost immediately flows into the Yakima River. The latter then swings right in against the r-o-w just east of the bridge. On the north side if the tracks, is a highway.
