I'm not normal! I rescued a former Great Northern switchstand from a scrapheap, and restored it. It just needed new paint, and some dents pounded out of the target. A quick research of the prototype yielded a simple paint job.... The tough part was moving it. Period. That thing must weigh upwards of 250 pounds!! Without further ado, a truely rabid railfan's yard accessory:
awesome Hemi. A fella by the name of Bill Stoko in Tehachapi California, has a front and back yard full of signals, most, if not all of them working! He is a retired SP signal maintainer.
Thanks, Thom--all the rust removal, pounding, and sanding work was worth it! That guy must have a cool yard... I like signals--I wonder if any are former D&RGW??
And anchored in what....? Hope it's at least three bags of Sakrete, or equivalent! Had a neat ole guy in town who had operating flashing crossing signals at the entrance to his driveway before Katrina, hope it's still there. He also held an open house to his HO layout every Christmas.
2 railroad ties are wat the bolts are anchored in. This house is not my own--I cannot make it permanent...
What do the neighbors think??? I know someone here in Longmont that has a DRGW switch stand in his yard! Sitting right up by the front door!
That's a speed limit signal, meaning 30 km/h. We have house number 3. This pic was taken on Nov 26, 2005. Yes, we have had winter that time. For three days. Wolfgang
My ex-landlord in Sherman has a switchstand in front of his house, with the house number on the target. I had a friend in Loma, CO whose mother was an agent for the Rio Grande/SP/UP, and she had several RR signs in her yard, including croosbucks. And yes, she had permission to have 'em.
