Mark: If the 2-8-0 lost a traction tire, it wouldn't run very well. The noise is another issue. Loco1999: The gear from the motor could be binding against the frame. That happens if the screws holding the right and left halves of the frame are too tight. Usually there are one or two screws holding both frame halves together. The third screw is usually missing for some unknown reason. Also make sure that there are three spacers in between both frame halves. Also make sure that the screw that holds the gear plate in position is properly tightened. If it isn't the motor will move and possibly bind against the frame. This screw is located near the trailing truck. Also make sure the two small screws that hold the gear plate in position aren't too tight. Also make sure the rods aren't binding against the drivers.
