Awaiting final disposition at the boneyard, near Chinatown in Los Angeles (November 1983)...an SP ALCO Century awaits her final fate...perhaps a welders torch to put her out of her misery..and reincarnate as a Datsun or Toyota! and one of her GE "cousins" and some other forlorn looking locomotives.... What a sad sight I hate to see locomotives awaiting scrapping. But we have to move on, I guess. Are those bullet holes in the glass? Must be exciting shooting at such difficult targets
These photos certainly invoke sad feelings, especially the Alco's I vaguely remember a post on a forum asking what happened to retired locos. If I come across it again I'll direct them to this topic. Willis
Were those all Scrapped? Were some saved by other roads? Did the GEs go back to be turned into Super Sevens? I can understand the Alcos, but I can't believe the GEs were really at the end of their careers.
At least she looks better than when I last saw her in March 2000 just after crossing into AZ. BTW, Can I add your photo to my site?
Go Right ahead. My real name is John Eilers if you are listing contributers. That was taken in Albany Oregon in I believe October of 2003.
