    All,
Installed a Digitrax DZ-143 decoder into a Con Cor N Scale Gas Turbine earlier today. Decoder tested good before install. Runs fine.
Problem now is, I have NO headlight control. Always on.
    Wired mine as seen here:

    Gas Turbine

Followed instructions for using the original ConCor headlight.
Checked a few CV's, with no luck.
No indications of a decoder problem either.
    Comments/suggestions appreciated.
    Thanks.

First thing I would check is CV29 to make sure it is the value you want. From the instructions I see they recommend 26. This is 26 Hex not decimal. If you are using a Digitrax DT300/400 then you need to make sure you are in Hex mode or you need to convert 26H to the decimal equivilent.

Another option is to use DecoderPro (Freeware Program) to program your decoders. This program is a god send for the hex challenged.

After looking at the various CV values on the Digitrax site, and writing down those I thought might be of help, I tried them.
As before, nothing worked. Headlight on all the time, and non directional.
I'm not too overly concerned about it. At least the locomotive I installed the decoder in runs!!
Just need to get a Locobuffer set up next. Have decoder Pro already, from a railroad club member.
I just down have a computer, yet, with the required connection for the Locobuffer.
Temporarily out of work as well, my choice. So, I'm limited in what I can do money wise right now.

    Keith,

You might want to contact Digitrax Tech Support. I recently installed a DH163 decoder for a friend. When we went to program it the headlight flashed every time we stored a CV. Then when we put it on the track with power the headlight was always on. Digitrax ended up replacing the decoder. All it cost was the postage.

Does the DZxxx decoder have a removable harness? If not, I could see that as a problem.

    Everything tested fine before install.
In this case, the decoder is a hardwire job.
    Nothing shorted during/after install.
No indications that something burned out either.
Bulb just stayed on from the beginning, even at factory defaults.
