Does anyone have any experience/tips with adding NJ International switch stands to Atlas Code 55 turnouts? Turnouts are currently powered by under-table Tortoise machines and NJI products were ordered for "looks" - but they appear to also be functional and I'm curious if they can be adapted to the Tortoise linkage. Any info is great. Thanks!
aaman: I use NJI switch stands on the JJJ&E. They are well made and can be adapted with some creativity. I use Kato Unitrack so I can't help you with your under the table Tortoise switch machines. THe NJI switch stands add some great looking detail to a layout. Have fun... Stay cool and run steam.....
I have 25 of these stands. About half work with some difficulty. The rest are static. It's a nice detail to add even if they remain static. NJI has five different types of switch stands. These are mainline stands. Stay cool and run steam.....
I bought 4 of the "high" Ramapo, and 3 of the "low" Ramapo style. They look GREAT, and I think I could make them work... in other words, link them to the Tortoise rod such that they would indicate the route and actually point in the correct direction.... but I would have to find a 1/160 cutting torch to widen the throwbar mounting hole into a slot...... on second thought, perhaps it will be just fine to have them static.....
aamen: For all the work involved it's easier to leave them static. I have a dozen that I can move "at times". Too much time was into a "sometimes working proposition". Mine are all the high Ramapo. NJI makes nice signals susch as the semaphores and rail crossing gates. Stay cool and run steam.....
Static they shall be! I was (am) very impressed with their service and products, and I will definitely be buying more soon.... My current layout effort is intentionally small, but with a focus on trying new techniques and products. I have a Berkshire Junction set of active side-of-street flashers (no gates) with their optic-sensor predictors, and I am also experimenting with sound and superdetailing. I'll post pictures sometime soon, probably both here at trainboard and on my web site. This is my 5th or 6th N Scale layout, along with my other larger scale experiments, so I better be getting good at this stuff!!!!!! The importnat thing is that it's fun. It's relaxing. And I get to try new stuff and improve my skills. Best hobby ever... preaching to the choir, I know......
