Found this NYC&StL stock certificate the other day and thought it was neat, dated June 8, 1928. Owned by the Van Sweringens at the time, NKP had greatly expanded its reach just six years before by acquiring the Lake Erie & Western and the Toledo, St. Louis & Western Railroad (aka the Clover Leaf Route). Surviving the Great Depression, future years would prove the NKP to be an exceptionally well managed railroad and desirable merger partner. Check out the illustration. A fast train, well maintained physical plant, block signals, heavy industry and men at work. What more could a shareholder want?
