STEAM ENGINES, STEAM ENGINES, STEAM ENGINES Can I say more? You bet!! I am happy that we have all these new diesel engines, most of them run like watches. Now lets have a couple of steamers that run just like the KATO 2-8-2's! A NYC 4-8-4 Niagarra(spelling?) C & O 2-6-6-6 Allegheny, a Generic 0-8-0 switcher. I gotta stop now I'm starting to foam at the mouth. I'll pay the price, just make them run GOOD!!

[ 11 May 2001: Message edited by: atirns ]

Mike I can see your point but there is nothing wrong with grabirons being added because these are generic details. I am opposed to manufactures adding sunshades or plows because these are road specifc details expecially plows where different roads use a different style of plow.
I think you all are settling for too little and not seeing the big picture. The next commom sense thing has got to be the DCC/Conventional switch on the decoders like HO has just recently gotten. As far as Pie in the Sky, SOUND!! I'm also in 1/32 scale. Once you have good sound it's like a drug. You have to have more. I said GOOD sound.
Very interesting ideas. I'm not a detailer, nor a DCC'er - though I admire both. One of the configurations of my layout is early steam (pre-1880s) so I'm biased to more steam engines of any sort. I guess I'll explain the 'configuration' - I've a basically scenicked 3 x 5 layout. By swapping rolling stock and buildings, I'm able to represent the above mentioned, as well as the CRI&P circa 1960, and even the Island of Sodor (using Tomix rolling stock, locos and buildings...)
I too would be interested in steam engines. I'm impressed with the increasing level of detail on the latest Atlas, Kato, and Lifelike engines.
maybe a Genesis in N-scale JnJ Trains has the Genesis shell, we also offer a frame kit for the shell. See our web site at ... www.jnjtrains.com Troy [ 30 May 2001: Message edited by: jnjtrains ]
How about the whole nine yards fellas? Detail is what catches the eye and makes the spectator/operator feel as if their on a real location somewhere along the track. Sure I'd like to see some serious photo etching put on both Steam and Diesel, LED's, smoke (which I think might be possible), ditch lights, you name it.
