    Hello everyone.

Very happy to be joining you. My Grandfather, who passed away before I was born, was a fireman and engineer on the 20th Century Limited, and drove the GCT to Harmon run and put the locomotives to bed. He worked from the 1920's to the l950's. I'm told he also was involved with picking up the Dreyfus J3A Hudson from the 1938 NY World's Fair. How cool is that?

I model both N and HO and am currently working on a small freelanced N gauge layout incorporating scenery DCC, Tortoise turnouts, signals, in order to learn the do's and don'ts before launching on a bigger (more costly) HO project.

    John

Hi John, Welcome to the TrainBoard, glad to have you on board. I may have seen your Grandfather's juice-jack uncouple from the Century at Harmon sometime in the late 1940's. My mother and I watched many trains, including the Century change engines from the bluff above the Harmon station.

Welcome aboard, John. As one of those NY Central fans, I may have ridden behind your grandfather between GCT and Harmon when I was a teenager. I have maintained my interest in NYCS steam to the present day and have collected a lot of old photos. Some are out for digitization now and I hope to be able to post them here as they return. As a matter of interest, what was your grandfather's name? I have tried in vain to track down the history of some of the hoggers I knew as a kid.
