    Hi all.

I was prompted to include this project here...of course not seeing the forest for the trees, never thought about posting in the Layout Design Forum...duhh!

Anyway. Work in progress and the layout is really, really provisional. I've already considered reworking the ground plan a bit, rotating Taylor Yard so it is in line with the LA module and then double back...I'll re-thunk it tonight and post an update. This is in Z scale and is sort of a Homage to Bob Smaus' LA modeling in HO Scale. Like the original track plan and have been working it into a 5'x8' layout that is scaled down from a 12'x19' HO project.

This layout is the anchor for a book I've been asked to write on Z Scale and also to provide a photo backdrop for my home and work projects...I also want to play...I mean, Operate on it as well ) Important aspects of this layout are to keep it modular and be able to take the whole thing to shows, create an "Island" that is perpendicular to the existing modules and make it a destination that offers varied regional industries. Urban modeling is almost non-existant in Z scale primarily due to the lack of structures. So, using a local laser I've designed and cut what I needed (and will need) out of different materials to simulate the different textures and designs you see in urban environments like LA.

Again, this is very early in the process, there are a lot of different things I want to do with this project, step outside the box of what we traditionally consider modular railroading, deconstruct it a bit and use it as a platform that can grow and change as need be. Nothing is set in stone at this point so any input will be greatfully accepted.

There's a sketch of the layout on the LA page at the bottom...getting out to the other modules is my first order of business.

    Thanks

    Cheers
