CP TO INTRODUCE NEW TRAIN NUMBERING SYSTEM: Over the course of the next 8 - 10 weeks, Canadian Pacific Railway will be adopting a new train numbering system. All of our freight trains will be clearly numbered so that every person who works for CPR will be able to recognize the trains that require priority service. For example, our new 100 Series trains will be carrying the highest priority products, which our customers are depending on us to deliver at very specific times. Under the new numbering system, the freight product trains will be numbered as follows: 100 Series - Priority products 200 Series - Time sensitive products 300 Series - Grain products 400 Series - Manifest products 500 Series - Manifest products 600 Series - Potash and Sulphur products 700 Series - Other bulk products 800 Series - Coal products (CP via Bryce Lee - posted 5/06) I found this over at Railpace this morning.
Good?!?!?!?!?!? Took me long enough with the last renumbering to find out where it was going, where it came from. NEXT ROUND! LOL
Here's CN's train numbering ...... 100 series : Intermodal 200 series : Automobile Trains 300 series : Mixed Freight 400 series : Mixed Junk Freight 500 series : Local Work Trains 700 series : Coal Trains Cheers!!
So tell me, as a railfan standing out by the tracks watching trains roll by, how do you know what numbers/priorities the trains are?
Drew, If you have a scanner (not sure if you do or not) and you are out trackside. Usually in Yards the RTC (dispatcher for ya yankees). Normally instead of the unit number, trains will be called by their number. EG: CP 501 Windsor Sub RTC over....... Then clearance is given, with the unit number EG: Item #1, clearance #914 to STLH 5614 West... So when ya see 5614 heading westbound.....its 501 that the RTC Was calling earlier.
