Hello my name is Steve and I have always wanted to get into model train set. Growing up my dad had one and was not allowed to play with it so I found a used set of Bachmann/ Lionel on eBay for a great price. The tracks and engines need a good cleaning....what is the best thing to use to clean the tacks and engine wheels? Do the tidy track monkey cleaners work? Any hints, tips, tricks to setup a new village would be great!! Thanks in advance
Welcome to Trainboard. Yes, check out the HO forum and the Inspection Pit for questions that may be related to all scales but still very useful.

HI STEVE,i am a newbie myself, let me say happy holidays to you and all trainboard members, and welcome.
Steve: I've always been told to avoid Bright Boys, they can scratch the track. Isopropyl Alcohol and microfiber clothes. If you need to get a heavy-duty job, pink (or better yet, drafting) erasers followed by alcohol and microfiber cloths beefore you get to the Bright Boy. Now, that being said, a lot of people have had good luck by polishing track with ultra-fine sandpaper. The goal there being to smooth out the many fine grooves that dirt collects in and creates the electircal problems we all know so well. So take your pick.
