Following input from a previous thread (thanks to all again), I purchased the Digitrax 5amp set to start. Now I am deep into the learning curve and have two more questions....
    1. I have seen computer interface for programming or adjusting CVs such as sound volume and so on and see that the Digitrax module says I can use this on most decoders. Is this the way to go if I want the visual computer interface for use on a variety of decoders?
    2. On one of the sponsor sites I saw a Digitrax decoder for the Con Cor Aerotrain with sound that was plug in and loaded with the correct sound, but it had one not very nice review. Any recommendations on a good first time decoder with sound for this unit?

    Thanks,

There are a couple ways to go if you want sound capability.

First there is the universal programmer, JMRI's Decoder Pro. It needs either the RR-Circuits Loco Buffer or the Digitrax PR3.

Second, there is the the sound programmer available for the various sound decoder manufacturers. They will allow you to modify or build your own sound files, but they usually only work on their own brand.

Sound is like beauty, it is in the ear of the beholder.

ESU may be a brand for you to look at. They make the Loksound series of decoders.
