I was trackside at a grade crossing standing on a pile of trackside ballast maybe 25 feet from the rails, with that Challenger bearing down on me at about 70 MPH. Yeah, a little scary, but you just don't get many chances to experience that anymore. I'll bet it was interesting when such events were a daily occurrence, but that was before my time, as they were already scrapping diesels when I was born (1969).
