TB is not a business ???? I think there are those who will disagree with you !

That is what you weigh versus losing some stubborn people that won't or can't update.

By removing support for stupid IE6,

Giving all that up so a few people can stick with an outdated browser that has been worst in class for years seems like not a good choice to me.

...but for an individual surfing the internet? Come on.

    I'm a big ole teddy bear...people shouldn't poke sleeping bears with a stick !!

You know...I have been here for 3 years. All I read from you on any posts are veiled innuendos and flames. I have only put 2 people on my ignore list in that time. Congrats!!! You make number 3 !

Reply if you must....I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed person !

Charlie will do what upgrades he feels he has to for the website....that's his prerogative. I will accept that. I was simply pointing out the possible loss of members and monetary contributions. I will go back to my corner now and lurk like I did when I first came here. If the site becomes usable again...I will contribute to threads and make my monetary donation.

Interesting, I don't recall ever having a disagreement with you about anything of significance before, we've discussed things, I have a habit of using Hyperbole for sure, but I didn't realize I'd ever said anything that infammatory.
I apologize if my recollection isn't true. And if it isn't true, I also apologize for anything I might have said that upset you.
I've spent a large portion of my working life testing and supporting web browsers. I'm not going to call IE6 anything but what it is old, bad at what it does and unsupported. It is a security risk whether I say that nicely or not.

MTN, it boils down to security. This site is writen in PHP, which is easily hacked. By going to the latest version, they are protecting the site. What is worse, losing 2-10 members or losing the whole site? THERE IS A REASON WHY OLD BROWSERS ARE NOT SUPPORTED. Goto a new Wordpress blog and the program will warn you of the dangers of IE7!

Exactly, it's like driving a car with a leaky brakes. I don't care how much you don't want a new car, that one is not safe.

I also have to apologize...My frustrations are just making me short fused. I will just lurk...and hope the site works again someday. If not...not much I can do...thnxs *sigh*

I'll leave this thread and others like it and just go read the "N" board.

If this is a business, when am I going to start making money?

George, I'm sorry but this site is driven by a commercial product called vBulletin 4. We are not people who make significant modifications to the functioning of this product. We do customize it in ways that suit what we are doing here at TrainBoard but we cannot reverse engineer the software to make it more compatible for an old browser. Like everything in life, the wheels keep turning.

I have a PC that runs Windows 7 and I run the latest versions of Firefox, IE, and Google Chrome. FF is my browser of choice. When something newer or better comes out, I'm getting it as soon as I can afford it.

Does this mean that I like nothing but new things? No. I have two Victrolas. I love fallen flag railroads. I spend my days off in antique shops. I listen to Frank Sinatra and old jazz. But, I am not into old computers or old computer programs.

In this arena, newer is usually better.

I have to agree, on a computer, you will one day have to upgrade or just not use it. I can't run the copy of Wordstar my dad bough 25 years ago, I had to go to word perfect and then office. I can't run netscape 4.7 or ie 5.
Locking in on XP and ie6 doesn't make anything better. The fact that browsers are free makes the upgrade even more logical. Install every browser out there till you find one you like, won't cost nuthin.
