This is a PDF file (need Adobe Acrobat to read it) of a joint press release by KCS and Watco of the formation of a new shortline, the Arkansas Southern. The ARS will operate the Heavener, OK-Waldron, AR branch otherwise known back in the day as the Arkansas Western) and the former Graysonia, Nashville & Ashdown line (bought by KCS in the 1990s and operated as the Nashville Branch) from Ashdown to Nashville, AR. Startup is slated for October of this year.

Go to the Watco website for the details, as well as a map to this and the other new shortlines being started up by the KCS spinoffs.

That outfit is certainly gobbling up a lot of track this last year. Has me wondering where they're headed.
