I have decided to make the left side of the upper level of my N-18 into a small town. I have lined up the buildings to what I think is the best fit. I am open to recommendations or suggestions. It doesn't look like I can do cross walks. Maybe just a center line going up the main street. Entrance Exit Top view
Claudio- Good to see you posting again. The street looks pretty wide for a small town. I would narrow it down, put a stripe down the center and add a few back yard type areas and some fencing behind the commercial properties.
I look here everyday but I don't have anything to post. I thought I would add this. good tip. I will try that.
Claudio; Looks pretty good. I would suggest, however, that you give your n-scale vehicles (and their drivers) a way to "get out of town." Right now it looks like they are hemmed in by the track. It would require adding some street crossing(s) to get your cars past the track(s) and probably a highway bridge over the lower tracks. This bridge would go off "into space" leading to an imaginary area outside the layout.
Thanks Paul, We are on the same page. I have the bridge ready to go. I just want to get the main road figured out. Mark, any recommendation on the width of the road. I am thinking a little under 2 inches.
I edited some things with photoshop and was wondering if this was the way to go. All I did was put the yellow line down the middle, crosswalks and some parking spots with white lines. Of course I would use a straight edge for this.
Your 2nd photo with the lines makes for a fine layout. I see you have provided some room for alleys & parking at the rear. You can decide if you want the road a little wider in front of the firestation, then have some agle parking in front of the stores. I don't know about a school in a commercial district. You may want to swap around buildings till you get a good mix.
The driver of the trailer truck is cursing you out for not giving him/her much room to turn around. Dave.
Right now it looks just a little like "Loop Town" because 1. the asphalt fills the loop, 2. the buildings don't go beyond the loop, and 3. the buildings, rather than all facing east and west, face in various directions in order to fill the loop. This can be fixed very, very easily by sort of pretending in your own mind that the loop doesn't exist. Run asphalt and buildings outside of the loop. Run dirt, farms, or whatever inside one edge of the loop. And of course, line up the buildings so they are parallel. I know there isn't much space on the outside of the loop for buildings, but you can put other things there: half a junkyard, an old mobile home, a hamburger joint, a gas station, a bungalow with yard, a corner of a parking lot.
THQ Thanks Chaya, I have been thinking of outside the loop. Right know my dilemma is occurring with placing the buildings. If I place the buildings parallel to each other then the road can not exit to top of the loop. Also there is no room outside of the loop. There is a cliff on both sides.
