I haven't had a lot of new photos lately, but I just added 7 new photos to the Recent Photos Gallery. Here is a UP offering:

    Kevin,

Good stuff as usual. I have a question. What are you using for equipment? Also, what is your film preference? I looked on your site and couldn't find anything on this.

    Thanks for any info...

Thanks for the comments, Brett. The answer for your question is probably at the following page on my site:
    http://www.trainweb.org/KernJunction/equipment.htm

As for current equipment, it is really quite basic and of a shoestring budget nature (nothing fancy or high tech). My camera body is a Canon EOS Rebel 2000. I usually use the camera in aperture priority mode where the camera selects the aperture setting and I manually select the shutter speed. Depending on the light conditions, I will sometimes push the aperture between 1/2 and 1 step. I have two zoom lenses; a Tamron 28-80mm and a Sigma 70-300mm. The camera and lenses came as a package for around $450 and replaced my previous Canon AE-1P. I also use a lightweight aluminum tripod whenever possible, but many of my trackside ventures are spur of the moment and I sometimes forget the tripod (or just don't have time to set it up). As for film, I have been mainly using consumer grade Kodak Elite Chrome 100 (available at the local Walgreens) and Fuji SensiaII 100 (available at WalMart) as they are fairly cheap and easy to find. I find that the professional films are unnecessary for my skill level. Another problem is the volatility of professional film, as it is usually aged requiring fairly quick usage. Sometimes, a roll of film will spend a month in my camera before being completely shot.

I hope this answered your questions. If you have any more, feel free to fire away and I'll try to fill in the blanks.

That is an awesome photo, Kevin! Did you get any pics of those pipe loads behind the rack? Would look good on a model.

Thanks for the answer. Believe me I understand shoestrings all to well. ;)

No, I haven't gotten any shots of the pipe loads. If I come across another pipe train, I,ll try to remember to get some shots of the loads for you. They probably would look good on some of your 89ft. flats.

    ***Edit***

For the time being, here is a photo that was sent to me by "esprrfan". He stated that it was taken at Roseville. Thanks for sending the photo esprrfan:

I could have sworn I have seen standard 89ft flats on the pipe trains, but these appear to be more specialized flats (reporting marks of JTTX, I believe). I'll still keep my eyes open for anything that differs from this photo.
