Hi there This may/june my family and I spent 3 weeks in beautiful Canada / BC. The landscape and the large trains gave me inspirations to build a N scale layout. Now you see the result after 3 1/2 month of work. The quality of the pics is not the best - I'm still looking for a digital camera. I'm still at the start of the road (or the track). But the first step has been done. Have fun Daniel
Daniel, Welcome aboard! I'm VERY IMPRESSED with what you have accomplished in just 3-1/2 months! And your workmanship appears outstanding.
Daniel, Where were you in BC? Your layout is looking terrific. What track are you using and code? Gotta love the "Golden Rodent" on the CP engine. My favourite area for railfanning here in British Columbia is the Fraser and Thompson canyons.
Hello Daniel, welcome to Trainboard Around the world people model Swiss railways, so it is interesting to see someone in Switzerland modelling North American railroads I fell in love with Swiss railways during several family holidays a few years ago, and built a Swiss model railway, but eventually came back to US rails! You have made excellent progress in a short time, and put me to shame, as I have neglected my layout lately. I look forward to seeing more as your layout progresses.
Thank you for your lovely welcome . This is very motivating in moments like this, when my SD90 glide out of the switch and I have no idea why ! Rick We started in Vancouver with a C24 RV. The stopps have been in Summerland, Salmon Arms, Revelstoke, Lake Louis, Banff, Jasper, Valemount, Clearwater, Cache Creek and Squamish. After 2 weeks we were back in Vancouver. So we spent the rest of the holidays in Vancouver Island. This were our best holidays we ever had. And next year, when my account says - yes - we will be there again. I love this country !!! I use Woodland track bed and Peco track Code 80. The trees are Heki, the 'green' is Woodland. When I see an end, I will install Digitrack. Have fun Daniel Lissa
Dan, Welcome to Trainboard it is great seeing memebers post for the forst time and especially using our railimages site to upload the pictures Your layout is looking great and I especially like the mountain scene with the sweeping curves. Do you have a track plan of the layout that you can display? Once again welcome to trainboard and I look forward to seeing your post. One question how did you find out about the railimages site?
Paul Thanks for your compliments. There is no track plan - sorry. I'm still creating and working and will draw a plan when the track is finished. I found this site after a hint from my fellow Sandro. He also told my many tricks about rr-modeling. So I have saved a lot of money and time avoiding mistakes Good night (it's 1:20 am) Daniel
Dang! Nice pics, for only 3.5 months work!!!! In about 12 mos, my layout has only gotten as far in the pics as it shows. *in the link below* Welcome aboard!
A very nice highball welcome to you Daniel! Very nice looking layout so far! I have 2 questions: 1> What are the dimensions? 2> Do you have a trackplan to post? Happy Railroading! Russ
Russ The layout is formed as an 'L'. The bigger modul is 5.5 x 1.20 m, the little one is 2.65 x 1 m. This gives a total area of 9.25 m2. But I have the possibility to enlarge a little bit Sorry - no trackplan in the moment. I'm still creating the layout. I will draw one when the model is finished (After some years). I also plan to create an Internet site but ... where can I steal all this time Have fun Daniel BTW The last view days I had plastered a little bit. My landscape is now 1.5 m larger
I've seen his layout at different stages. From the very beginning to what it appears now. Impressive work indeed. Must be because he had an outstanding teacher.... Now he just has to figure out how to make the turnouts working they way they're supposed to. Currently the switches are more like a de-railer.... (he'll showup in my office and hit me for this ) BNSF FAN I can tell you what he already included in his layout : some of my rolling stock...
Daniel Lissa, Sounds like you drove through some of my favourite areas. On and off I was raised in Jasper, which of course meant lots of trips to Banff. My grandfather and uncle were CN engineers out of Jasper. I am guessing you drove through the Thompson and Fraser Canyon (these two areas are my favourite railfanning locations), and then onto the "old Dutthy Lake road" which isn't old any more; but you feel you are in the middle of nowhere - a favourite of motorcylists from all over the world. Speaking of my favourite railfan locations, the November issue of CTC has pictures from the Thompson canyon on the cover and page 60... really awesome area.
You are doing very nice work, Dan. I like your 'freelanced' approach to your design - make it then draw it! Keep us informed of your progress, please.
