I looked at the pictures, marveled at the detail work.......then I saw the price. YYEEOOYYWWCCHH!!! At those prices, I can learn to make my own loads. All I can say is, good luck to Kanrail.....they'll need it. Oh yes, Don- thanks for posting! If anything, the pics show us what is possible for US, the frugal modeler, to do. [ 23. Bob, I totally agree! Those prices are amazing! The loads look good, but they are not rocket science, so I don't know why they are so expensive. Making loads for flatcars is a fairly easy and interesting thing to do, and when you make your own each one is unique.
I'd say it's time for some old-fashioned scratchbuilding to happen. At my friendly train pusher's shop in Grand Junction, he has several HO scale flatcars with tractor loads. They're well- done and all, but for the price the guy who made them was asking for, I could do the same for less. 25 bucks for a flat w/ tractors? And I'm the one P&Ming about 35 bucks for a hopper car (Athearn Genesis)! As to why they're expensive- well, I'll just mention PT Barnum, and say no more.
Surely they must have misplaced the decimal point! OUCH!!! How do they justify the price tag! Thank goodness for mfg's like Alan Curtis! Cool products, great prices!
I have to wonder if this is the same place that did those Microbrains 89 footers with the gas pipe loads that went for upwards of $600 on eBay a while back. They look pretty similar. For those prices, it had better be brass!
The only brass here is the "stuff" (as my youngest son would call them) on the owner of Kanrail. I sure hope N Scale Supply doesn;t get stuck with a whole bunch of this stuff.
OK, in all fairness I looked at the catalog page on the N Scale Supply site for Kan-Rail, and they also have girder & pipe loads for 14 bucks. Maybe a little high, but more manageable. Apparently the other loads we saw are special-run work- personally, if I were to buy someething from Kan-Rail, I'd rather buy the loads themselves and not spend the 30 to 50 bucks a car to weather & detail it. And again, there's still the option of scratchbuilding..... still looks good to me.
