John, Kurt Lueck from 3RWorks makes some realy nice tank cars. Look at his website: http://www.3rworks.com/TankCar.htm Regards Jürg
JR, I know about 3rworks tank cars, but did you see his initial release of 20 cars. Talk about a short run. There is one thing I got to say about those tank cars, they do look great. JR, did you order one?
hi jurg, he's probably someone on this board -- i don't know! he's building a Z scale empire and has bought lots and lots or z stock -- which is just fine. he must have unlimited funds -- pilot maybe, british airways possibly?? it's been aggravating to try and get one car you want and find him overbidding everything. other's have tried to secure a ribside car, too, but just can't, anymore. oh well, i finally got this recent one, and my layout is small, so i'm not that worked up anymore. i haven't heard from you, is everything on track? i'm looking forward to doing some painting. dave f.
Micro-Trains Modern Boxcars! Soon MTL will be releasing their second edition of modern boxcars. A 50' FMC high cube! What roadnames will they come out with first? I am not sure. I just know this, I will be buying many! The way I see it, whom ever comes out with the most variety of MODERN rollingstock will Win! We are indeed hungry for more Modern "Z"! Here's to Micro-Trains! You Go GuyZ! Tim
Would it be too much to as to release the FMC high cube boxcar in CSX scheme first. I gues my chances of winning the lottery would be better. The chances of winning the lottery would be two million to one. The chance of them releasin a CSX boxcar first. None.
John, I've ordered 15 Tank Cars from Kurt last October in a spezial paint scheme. But I still have to wait because he's very busy. Regards Jürg
David, the last week was very busy and I haven't time to check everything but next week I have more time. Sorry for the delay. Regards Jürg
Why should this be so surprising? Micro-Trains duplicated a Marklin product for its first Z scale offering. It would be better for the scale if the manufacturers made different products, to avoid competing for a small market and therefore hurting each others' business.
GP9?? Hmm.. GN Empire Builder scheme, NP Canoe, GN Big Sky Blue, BN, maybe MILW, D&RGW in as-delivered or switcher paint... And that's justa few off the top of my head..
Hello all, I'm new to the Trainboard in terms of posting (been lurking for months). A GP-9? I was hoping for an RS-1 or RS-3. Seems to be very counter-productive (for Z scale) to have 2 manufacturers coming out with the same locomotive in the same year.
WELCOME!! I am new to Z as well.. Is AZL's a plastic or brass version? What production phase? Not all GP9's look exactly alike....
According to Rob's ZScale Magazine site the AZL GP7/9 is an injection molded body similar to the new SD70M.
Hi John, Welcome to Trainboard! Yes it is kind of a waste to have 2 manufacturers doing the same locomotive, so I hope to see RS1's and 3's myself. Anything that the NP had I want. -Robert
John, Here's a thread that may shed some light on this question of why two manufacturers are building the same engine: http://www.trainboard.com/ultimatebb.php/ubb/get_topic/f/9/t/008119.html
Well, I don't know it's going to be a GP7/9 from MTL or not. I do know that AZL sat on their GP7/9 design for something like two years waiting and giving MTL the chance to do it, but MTL did the GP35 instead. While I think the GP35 is a great running and great looking model and I've already got multiples of them, I honestly don't know why they picked that one instead of something like a GP7 or 9 that would go with their F7 and most of their rolling stock or a GP38-2 or GP40, a little bit more modern and tie in with the new modern rolling stock they are now releasing. While the GP35 does have lot's of roadnames to do, the prototype didn't sell as many units as either the earlier or later GP's did it? We aren't the decision makers and what makes sense to us doesn't neccessarily make sense to a manufacturer. If MTL does do a GP7/9 in a similar time frame to AZL's what might the differences be? AZL would likely release more roadnames and road numbers simultaneously while (unless there is a major change) we would have to wait for different roadnames each month from MTL. If you look at the MTL GP35 and the forthcoming AZL SD70M (and the previous F59PHI) as examples, the performance and the level of detail on each SHOULD be comparable. However, the price may not be. We'll see. Remember, except for a few people in the know (of which I am not one) we are all just speculating at this point. Randy
HemiAdda2d The main difference I see between N scale (from your link) and Z scale is that there are more manufacturers of N scale Locos and ALOT more NA N scale locos, We need ALOT more diversity in our Z scale Locos and not more competition between our very few in number loco manufacturers over whose GP7/9 we will buy. When we have the diversity similar to N scale then I can see manufacturers making duplicates of each others Locos, otherwise Z scale would suffer unless a lot more diverse locos come online to satisfy a demand. While MT makes great GP35's it only makes one road name/road number per month and waiting for your favorite road name to come out is excruciating (I am waiting for the GP35 in NYC, CSX and/or NS) and unless you are a good to great artist with an airbrush (I’m not, I never even picked one up) you are at the mercy of time or finding someone and paying them to paint it up for you. Ok enough of my ranting as I quietly await my SD70M in NS.
