Hey Don, Welcome. Come on in! this is one of the best group of modelers you'll ever find. I've learned volumes from everyone. Let us know what scale or era you model, where are you in you layout building etc. See ya, Shaummy
Check out the acrchives...everything that is in these forums from the past years are extremely useful, interesting, and if not then definately worth a good laugh!!! Enjoy!
Welcome a Board Don! Yes we are quite a family here, so model, some are employees of real railroads, some shoot and post photos, some write storys, and some just Lurke around reading about the fun the rest of us are having. Tell us about your interests, I'm sure there are fellow interests here, young and old.
Hello and welcome Don .. come in, take off your shoes, sit a spell and tell us some of your yarns too. We all have a good time in here.
Hi Don! It's kinda like Cheers around here with everyone shouting "Hi Don" From yer profile it looks like you are a UP fan. You'll find friends here - even those of us who would rather it was called The Chicago and Northwestern but I digress...
Hello to everyone who bid me welcome. I've always had a great time watching trains and wonder what they were hauling and where they were going. I have just started this GREAT hobby one year ago this month, I am doing HO and I've started out small, on a 4'x8' layout. I have 11 engines,4 steam 7 diesels, and rolling stock is up to 65. I've modeled a industrial area and am to the point of NO MORE ROOM to add anymore structures. All track, switches, turntable are from Atlas. Most of the structures are Cornerstone. My time frame is before 1959 and the Union Pacific rides the rails with the Southern Pacific tagging along. This is an enjoyable hobby, time consuming but fun. THANKS EVERYONE,DON
Watash,The 4 Steamers I have are 2-8-2 Athearn,4-8-4 Daylight, 4-8-4 Overland, and 0-8-0 Yard Goat. Right Now the area that my layout is in is the only room in my house I have available for my trains. Maybe some day I can shift to a larger room, I started out in the living room and with my wife's help we started this layout now she and I share the sewing room. Dreamers have to start somewhere!!!!
Don, my question is about the Overland. I understand the Athearn has a rigid frame, but I was told the Overlands are made with each driver axle mounted on springs where any one wheel can go over a tooth pic while all other wheels stay on the track. If the Athearn tried this the tooth pic would raise all four wheels on that side. Right? Wrong? If that is correct, then the Overland should run far better than the 2-8-2.
Hello Watash, The DRIVERS on my Bachmann Overland 4-8-4 is this, only the two center sets of Drivers are spring loaded.wouldn't is be really great if all 8 drivers were spring loaded? would make a great engine for some little roughness in some trackage. Sorry about the hopeful query, But you never know what those Factory Engineers and Draftsmen have up thier sleeves. Have a good day. Don
OK Don. I missunderstood, I thought you were refering to the importer of Brass engines Overland. I am aware of Bachmann, I have one too. Mine has those ungodly long flanges. How does yours run?
ALL ABOARD, Welcome Don. As you already see we've got some decent guys with lots of experience and knowledge. Lucky you Don for one reason and you too Watash!!!! I've been looking for an Overland 4-8-4 in Bachmann to paint up Western Maryland J-1 Potomac and I haven't had any luck so far....... Where is their any at??? I heard from a few guys in my local model railroader club that Bachmann is now offering the 4-8-4's (Overland) only in a train set. Well that beats all odds of just finding one! Because I believe they been making the Overland set as a limited addition sets and only so many made and all that etc..... But good luck in your "new" hobby as it becomes habbit forming I know i've been in it since I was 2 years, it started as a Christmas gift and now I turned 22 this past September so this past Christmas was my 20th year in the hobby.... I've been in trainboard.com only a short time myself and the guys have already helped me a bunch on certain things.... And hopefully they all know that i'll help them in return if I can... I have seen a couple of the Overlands/Niagras (I think both of those have the 4-8-4 wheel arrangement) on eBay, only problem is that they are going through my self set price ceiling, so I have yet to find one truely "affordable." Good luck.
Don: Welcome. I think you will really enjoy the board. I am one of the new guys and found the wealth of info is only surpassed by the friendly attitudes. One thing I have learned to use the archive search first, then run out a question if you need to. Good luck. I am split between ATSF and UP, so I will watch your UP comments with interest. Tigerman
7600_1 hello, read your post and thought you might look in the April issue of Railroad Model Crasftsman in the advertisement for TRAINWORLD/TRAINLAND is a OVERLAND LIMITED SET FOR $99.00. not to shabby price if you really want one to re-paint. Good Luck to you, Don
Watash, On my 4-8-4 Bachmann Overland it does fairly well on 18"r.but better on the 22"r Mine runs at a good slow rate wheather with 6 to 10 frieght cars or just engine/tender.About the OVERLAND IN BRASS,these units are superb and so is the PRICE if you know what I mean. My wallet would be really flat for sometime if I paid the prices. Have fun and act your age,HA HA. Talk to you later, Don
