    Hello All
Just found this website a few days ago. I have been a collector of union pacific stuff Especially Turbines fro a long time now.
I am going to rebuild my layout to show them off.
The room is an odd shape and I want large radii which limits me.
    Take a look

    Opinions welcome

    Steve-

    Welcome aboard!

What scale is this? HO? N? I'm guessing the former?

You are lucky the door swings outward. My future layout room is only slightly larger. But the door swings inward. Which eliminates an entire corner.

As intended to display your collection, it would seem to me this will do a very good job for you.

    thanks guys

    It is ho guage.

I am trying to keep it simple this time.
My other layouts with too many tracks and sidings got too dificult to complete and make look right.

Mostly rolling hills with cuts. maybe some mountainuos areas too not sure yet. Will have a river scene at the end near the door also.

    No photos of my collection.
    My brass list
    #80 coal turbine
    #50 double ended
    #53 turbine
    a Veranda
    omi 3 unit turbine #26
    I also have a u50.
Next purchase is going to be a DD35 or DD40
    I like B units too.

I think this minimal approach will really show off the Turbine power quite nicely. Thats where those things rasn was in the big rolling fields of the west. Look forward to seeing pics of the layout.

I am planning to model Hermosa Tunnel where the two tracks enter the staging area.
Does anyone have any photos or links for this area?

    Choops,

Welcome to Trainboard it is always a pleasure welcoming new members.

Your design looks very interesting, it looks as though you have quite a large yard which is always essential when running multiple trains.

You might want to add another industry just to keep things a little interesting

Looking forward to seeing your progress.

    Once again welcome to Trainboard

    Welcome.
    I agree with Colonel.
Also, on your crossovers at the bottom- have you laid it out yet with real track? You might want to see how it operates without transition pieces as to hangups and derailments.

THis is a great looking layout, should bring hours of enjoyment. I always get concerned though when I see long runs of hidden track. Have you planned adequet access for derails and track cleaning? Hidden switches present their own problems as well. As long as you take exstream care laying it, that should reduce the potential for disaster.

    Hello all again
Summer project is in the garage now.
    http://maj.com/gallery/CHOOPS/COBRA/Complete/7-9-05side1.jpg

Getting back to the basement for the winter.
I have the staging yard done and the inner loop is almost complete.
Finally got to run some trans around.
Had the girlfriend start the mountains on the narrow end of the room.
It was fun and not that hard to do at all.
Will have some photos up soon.

Nice design! I've always liked the turbines and DD40s, and your layout will give a good space for them to run. 12x11+9x14 would be dream-layout size for me, but I'd be modelling in N. In HO, that's not so big. With your radius, it amounts to "only" 23 square squares. You've discovered the way to handle long trains and expansive scenery in a less-than-king-size area, the way that took me years to figure out: Eliminate the visible yard.

It has a 302 small block ford. car only weighs 2300 lbs though.

    triplex
That was the key. This is the fourth layout in this space. The first without a main yard and the first to make it to the scenery stage.

I'll trade you a couple of custom painted boxcars for that sweeeeeeet ride. I might throw in a caboose if you throw in the Mustang.....

    The layout is progressing nicely.
Here is a drawing of some changes I have made. Added some sidings for switching a mine area and a town scene. I also removed a track along the back (was not needed)
We have started scenery at the narrow end of the room and at the front.
    Having fun.
    All opinions welcome.

    Steve:

I really like your trackplan. One question, how do you access the middle of your trackplan.

I hope you're young and have a very strong back.
