Hello everyone and well met! I started getting into the model railroad hobby approximately a year ago. However, in that time we moved from Oregon to Texas, so I'm essentially starting over. My first layout I'm working on is evidently an old plan back from Dec. 1970 called East Glasstop. I've made some alterations to the original plans, but am currently waiting for some supplies to come in as there are no local hobby stores in Abilene. As I get started and continue to go I will post updates. Please wish me luck as I've been told this will be a challenging project for a first timer.
Welcome to TrainBoard! Plenty of folks here to answer questions, and help you leap any hurdles encountered. We were all "first timers", and have learned a lot which can easily be shared.
In so many ways, you're really at the most fun part of the hobby, where everything is new and the oportunity to learn is immense. The name you've posted for the design doesn't immediately ring any bells, could you possibly post a description or plan? And I'd have to think that Oregon to Texas is a complete change of surroundings! Welcome aboard and enjoy the ride!
A little over a two hour drive will get you to Fort Worth, where there are several shops and--in a couple of weeks--a train show! Hi N^2, Welcome to the Train Board. I understand feeling overwhelmed, but Doug has given you some great places and events to talk, look, and learn. Also, we're here for you whenever, and for whatever, 24/7/365.
Welcome aboard Nsane Nscale. Yeah, that transition from Oregon to Tejas. Where in Oregon did you live? As the others have said, there is much help available here.
Thank you all for the warm welcome! We moved from a small suburb of Portland called Fairview. Has been quite a shock in weather amongst other things. Also, you will see the plan I'm talking about on the attachment. I apologize in advance if the photo is not clear .
Thank you for the heads up on these shows. Will try to make at least one of them and I know my wife and kiddos will enjoy it as well.
Welcome! I know all about the transition from a cool, green land to Abilene. Been here 15 years now, and still haven't quite adjusted to the Summer heat, but my family and I have come to appreciate the family-friendly nature of life in Abilene.
