The first of the new log cars has arrived on the Andersley Western. Need these to feed the sawmill [IMG]

Any suggestions as to the best plant/tree/shrub to use for "logs" ?

    Hi Alan,
Nice logging car, (Make some for H0 please) as for the logs for it, I would use 1/4" balsa dowel and rasp it to shape/paint it grey-brown/put them in. Would look fantastic.

    cheers

    Alan,

Saw those on your website last week and can't wait to get my hands on some! (When will they be shipping to the retailers on this side of the pond?) Since Walthers decided to drop their log flat (atleast this year) I am in need of several and these are just the ticket (but unfortunately will go behind quite a few other projects before they get done).

As for logs I usually use pine. My reasoning is the young braches are often very straight, have rather fine bark detail and are the proto version for my logging operations in the South Eastern US.

I too use real limbs from trees for this sort of detail. Small new branches of any type of wood will work. I do however would recomend some type of over spray to seal the bark and all being in time it will dry and crack and flake off...Also preseting it in the car is a way to add your own detailing... where the racks are rub some od the bark off to represent when it hit the rack when loaded.... :D

Vandy, some of the shops have them on the way, but not all of them yet. I expect they will all soon have some [IMG]

Vandy and John, thanks for the suggestions for logs. Will scout around and see what I can find.

Paul, I may even try your balsa method, but I am not as skilled as you  :D

    Incredible job, Alan!!!
I just now /finally/ built my spine car kit I got from you.. They are also nicely detailed as well! I can't wait to paint and decal them! I have trucks on, temporarily, to see how well they'd run.. so smooth... I have go to get more!
Oh, yeah, back to the log cars....
I have so many centerbeams, I should have a few log cars, too.... [IMG] [IMG]
