With all the help on here regarding the colour of Redwoods, I got around to painting these monsters so, here's my new logging area using these rather nice looking cast stumps. Lots more little details to add yet, but thats for another day.
I sure hope they didn't drop those trees across the tracks when they felled them! Somthing that size would tend to put a mighty big dent in the railheads!
Paul, you sure did cut some huge trees there! Looks great as usual! Somewhere back in my school days, I remember seeing where one of the loggers had built their rail tracks across the tops of some big stumps as a means of crossing a narrow ravine. They laid two big trunks across the tops of stumps like a bridge, with the tracks on top of those. Here is a link to a photo of just how big some of the trees really were. I think this one is nearly twenty feet in diameter. It is what they called a "Butt" log. It is the one just above the stump, and weights tons! Notice the men standing close by for size. ftp://ns1.gameinfozone.net
Paul, The stumps look very effective and very realistic. I visited the Redwood forrest when I was in California in 99
So Paul, are there any trees left that would leave stumps like these if cut? Loggers of the past were quick to cut down the largest trees. Maybe all that lumber went to the Cater Casket Company as they have unfortunately been extremely busy.
Paul, I'm glad you are only cutting down scale Rewoods! Most amazing photos!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm "stumped" as to how you do it! I "wood" not believe it unless I "saw" it myself! Let me go out on a "limb" and say it was some of the nicest stuff I have ever seen. "Knock on wood", Paul. "Knot" all of us have can "cut" it! Your talent is incredible! How do you cope with all the "sawdust"? Does the Mrs. "bark" at you????????? Don't disturb the "nest"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We all wish we were the "acorns" that fell from your "trees"! I should stop the puns and "turn over a new leaf". If you put a thin girl under one of the trees she could be "Twiggy"! Again, incredible work!
Paul, beautiful modeling as always. It reminds me of some paintings from the 1800's depicting the destruction of the wilderness. (Not that destruction of the wilderness is beautiful, just the opposite... but I'm sure you get the idea. ) [ 06 May 2002, 03:01: Message edited by: RidgeRunner ]
Paul, awesome as ever. Johnny...I "saw" your post, and I believe the "root" of your pun problem "stems" from the "blight" of punnism you must have contracted from the consumption of too many tea "leaves". Paul's modeling of his "branch" line runs "rings" around my modeling, as does his great photo "shoots", but I do not consider myself in his "shadow"and hence, would "knot" try to "plant" any hidden puns in my letters, even if it "wood" mean free publicity for my little "trunk" line. Now, with this letter having been "red, wood" you "bough" down before your computer, "log" on, and "leave" us another "sapling" of your excellent muse, that being a "natural outgrowth" of your great humor? I admit I am a "knotty" boy, but I have never been accused of not seeing the "forest" for the "trees".
Thanks for all the remarks and the Puns, I loved it. In my estimation, I have "Branched" out on numerous occasions. "Twigged" the idea of a new layout "Barked" up the wrong "Tree" with the thought of my bank balance being in the "Red", "Wood" you believe, I considered a "Trunk" road layout with a "Branches" off everywhere. Hmmmm Okay people, Let me tell you that this hobby of trains is the ULTIMATE HOBBY and is a VOYAGE into expanding a Railroad. IT’S ON GOING MISSION TO EXPLORE STRANGE NEW ALCOVES. TO SEEK OUT NEW PLACES, AND NEW AREA’S TO MODEL. TO BOLDLY GO WHERE NO TRAIN HAS GONE BEFORE.
I wood be aspen you to stop, but that goes against the grain. However, the fine pictures by Paul (and his awesome scenery) has inspired me to do some spruce-ing up on my layout, beause fir some time it's been dormant. Oh, did I mention I model a branch line out in the sticks? I'll stop before you begin to bark at me and have a desire to beat me to a pulp & knock the chip out of me. I'll cedar you later. Oak-kay? Oak-kay! When puns are outlawed, only outlaws will have puns............ (great work as usual, Paul- keep us posted, and keep the photos coming!)
Yep Pete, it was all those Columbian tea leaves back when. Or was it now............? I forget! Ah. Old jokesters like me are expundable I guess. Wow, just saw a cute girl on the tv. Nice puns! But seriously, Paul you make things come to life. I know if I were standing over your layout looking at that scene, it would be at least a half hour before you could move me along!
^THEME FROM STAR TREK^ DAAAAAA DAAAA DA DA DA DAAAAAAAAAAAA................. Oh Paul, if this were 100 years in the future, would you be modeling at "warp" speed? Did that "phase" you any?
hey paul ,would be barking up the wrong tree if i said you do one hell of a good job no wonder you get in the mags.
