Here are some pictures of some progress on the "South Street Subdivision" 1st is a set of wellcars on the southbound CP Montreal to Philadelphia intermodal passing through Fairmount Park with the city in the background: Next is a shot down the South Street Subdivision's aptly named "Funnel" with Smith Bros. provisions taking delivery by a NS switcher of a load of boxcars. The switcher has left several grain hoppers on the main, and on the left are cement hoppers at Penn Valley cement (normally supplied by Ciment Quebec): Next up is a CP manifest freight with a pair of SOO SD60 leaders passing under Tioga Blvd. coming out of the funnel on their way north through the sub: and finally, here is a poorly lit shot of a CP switcher pulling empty cement hoppers from Penn Valley Cement (afternoon lighting is always tricky on the sub): next time, shots from Binghamton yard! my best, Jan
Thanks TaeOh! well, gonna give this a try linking to an image: If this works, the 1st shot is around the CP maintenance facility at my Binghamton Yard, pretty full recently (railroads are pulling unused freight and locos and storing them): http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/bCmqeZ5rpRnjFysbjMHHZw?feat=directlink Here is a shot of the end of the storage tracks with the mainline running behind: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/7kq1Lh-Na1VBGy2fcnYKXQ?feat=directlink One more shot of storage tracks with the mainline running behind: http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/o5uP27a9cT7zygCOXbPU3A?feat=directlink my best! Nice update Jan. I like all the fencing you have installed - looks very 21st century urban. Do you have any proto shots of the areas that inspired these scenes, e.g. the funnel? Cheers, Gary
Hiya Gary! The South Street Sub is pure fiction. CP Rail does run south to Philadelphia (as south as it operates in the east) and runs a switcher from South Street Yard to service customers around South Street and the Port of Philadelphia, but nothing like what I have built. The Funnel is actually inspired by an industrial area in Miami that I pass during my commute to work each day. CSX serves a large industrial area in the Northwestern portion of Miami-Dade county that has many areas that look very similar to my South Street Sub, and the FEC also serves an industrial rail corridor in the Hialeah Gardens area of the County. They served as the inspiration. For me there is something very appealing to observe trains work such "Rail canyons" If this works, this should be a link to a bird's eye view of the area: http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v...0&scene=8950489&phx=0&phy=0&phscl=1&encType=1 So the funnel became part of my fictionalized CP Philadelphia area operation. Thanks for asking! Jan
Ha! You had me going there. So, except for the trees, you're really modeling the future: CP in Miami. Really nice job of capturing the atmosphere of modern railroading. Thanks for the Picasa links too - nice to see these shots in full resolution. -Gary
:tb-wink: Thanks Gary! Chaya, Yes that is a Norscott Caterpillar wheeled front-end loader that I weathered. Elsewhere on the layout I have another front end loader that Deluxe innovations is now distributing and its really nice, I'll get a shot of it for you if you are interested later this weekend. my best, Jan
Chaya, Yes that is a Norscott Caterpillar wheeled front-end loader that I weathered. Elsewhere on the layout I have another front end loader that Deluxe innovations is now distributing and its really nice, I'll get a shot of it for you if you are interested later this weekend. I am interested, Jan, thank you. I was amazed to see your wheeled loader: it's just what I need for a gypsum mine and I didn't know there was anything out there. (I found the Norscot on a search once I saw what you had). I'm looking forward to seeing your shot of your other loader, too!
Thanks for the nice compliments everyone! Here is a link to the new photo I posted of the Cat loader I got on e-bay that is apparently the one Deluxe innovations will be distributing http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/nLvauf3sW6o1zGjwf35yvQ?feat=directlink my best, Jan
