Hi, folks. I'm Mike and I've been a model railroader off and on since 1981. I got a Tyco train set at age 6, and HO trains have been in my system in one way or another since then. I grew up across the street from the Joint Line, so the BN and Santa Fe have always been favorites, and a little research into an obscure branch along Buchtel Blvd. in Denver led me to the Denver & New Orleans. A combination of events and projects got me going on a "prototype freelance" of the D&NO, and I've created a loose re-written history that allows this little line to survive into modern times as a respectable carrier a la the KCS. All of this so I could justify a post 1960s Rice Yard and a fleet of SD39-2s (EMD never got any orders for them, so I made up a railroad that preferred them over SD40-2s for the sake of maintenance costs). Someday I would like to be able to model Denver at it's railroading zenith.
Welcome, Mike. Quite a plan, down to the backstory, that you have there. Have to say I always get a kick out of hearing the horns in the background of Rockies games...Enjoy!
Welcome to the TrainBoard, Mike, great imagination. Recommend you save a little room to model the New Orleans end of the D&NO, at least during Mardi Gras. ;-)
Hi , welcome to the yard! Zenith ? I thought that was a tv made a while back .... anyway looking fwd to seeing some fotos of your layout !!!
Welcome, curious how you plan on making SD39-2s, as there is no easy kitbash starting point for these.
