Hi everyone, I have been interested in model railroading since I was knee high to a grasshopper. I started the same way many get into the hobby with a train for Christmas. I received a Tyco Chattanooga Choo Choo HO scale train. My father, brother, and myself built a layout on a 4 x 8 sheet of chip board and the rest is all history. Like most I left the hobby in my teens when I discovered the wonderful world of cars and girls. Jump ahead to the late 90s I once again was bitten by the model railroad bug and started a N-scale layout and joined a N-Track club where I was very active up to a few years ago. I was forced to dismantle my layout while going through a divorce. Most of my equipment was packed away in boxes until a couple of months ago when I picked up a model railroader magazine and once again my interest was re-ignited. I don't have a large area to build anything close to the layout I had but I'll make due with the space I have. It has been a lot of fun going through all of my locomotives and buildings. I am a big fan of DCC and have both a Digitrax and NCE system. I plan on making my new layout DCC and will likely use the NCE system. The only downfall to the NCE system is the ability to operate DC locomotives. I'm looking forward to reading and sharing on this forum.
Well, you have a plan so you're off to a good start. If you're still close to the same area, is it possible to reconnect with the club? I had great times with one here until the Army took me away for a spell and the club had interpersonal problems and kinda disappeared. Best of luck!
Thanks Eagle2. I am still a member of the N-Track club in my area. I kept up my membership throughout my leave from the hobby but didn't participate very much. I guess I had lost my mojo to do anything related to model trains. Not sure why because I was a fanatic railway follower for many years. I guess divorce and some medical issues I had took away my love for the hobby. I am very pleased that it has come back!
Hi Gizmo. Your story sounds very familiar to me ... and I'm sure to many more in Trainboard. Welcome to the 'club'.
Thanks guys for the warm welcome. It really is great to be back in the hobby again. I had no idea how much I really missed my trains. I've been very busy cleaning out a small room where I will build my layout. I can't wait to get some bench work going and some track down. Should be lots of fun.
