Although being in the hobby for over 40 years, I never really got close to having a finished layout. I am retired and just moved to the country and 150 miles away from the closest hobby shop. So, I will be leaning upon the interweb to help me with the new layout. I will be proto-lancing the old Clinton Sub on the Frisco as it could have been in the late 60's if traffic revenue/shipments had increased. Due to space limitations, I will be using shelf brackets, of some sort) to support both decks of an around-the-room layout. Basically a single track folded dogbone with staging (KC & SPM) at each end.
Welcome to Trainboard, Bob. When I saw "middle of no where" I thought maybe you lived in Ely, NV, home of the Nevada Northern, and a place I really want to visit. :tb-biggrin:
Bob- Welcome to TrainBoard! I understand the shop distance as it is about the same for me. The 'Net has worked well for both supply and camaraderie.
Wow, a lot of middle of nowhere's. I live out in the county with the closest city having 458 people. On the plus side, I take 14 or steps to get to our local "pond". Granted, it is a 55,000 acre pond with close to 1,200 miles of shoreline. Not sure of how many layouts are accessible by boat. :tb-cool:
Welcome to Trainboard. There are a number of avowed Frisco modelers here as well as a few closet Frisco modelers. (OK, I admit, I do model some Frisco.)
Welcome Bob. Having been to many middles of nowhere I can empathize. But with that pond, think of the ooportunities for carfloat operations!
Funny, I was thinking the same thing.........and I HAVE been to Ely. Aside from the museum, there's a reason it's 50 miles past the end of the known universe... Seriously, welcome to Trainboard! Anybody who's willing to tackle ANY Frisco line is OK by me.
Sounds a little like Tenkiller, Ft. Gibson or Grand down here in Oklahoma. What is the name of this "pond", and how's the crappie fishing?
Ya know, if I could find someone across the way who was also a model railroader, I could do a "car ferry". I would have to actually put it on my pontoon, then motor across, carry it to the railroad and off load and go.
