From the newswire Feb 7 at TRAINS.com _______ New paint scheme for CSX CSX Transportation President Michael Ward announced today that the railroad would adopt a new paint scheme for its locomotive fleet. All new and rebuilt locomotives will be painted a solid, deep blue with a gold nose, tail and trim. The new design will be brighter, more durable and fade resistant, and will save money. The idea for the new livery came from employees, and is intended to be a visual symbol of the expanded CSX, which acquired 42 percent of Conrail in 1999. "Employees told us that a new paint design on our locomotives would be a visible symbol that we are a different company and also would serve to unify our work force," said Ward. "Many of you have heard me say, 'Can you imagine the power of 35,000 people all pulling together?' Locomotives are the 'power' for our trains, and our 35,000 employees are the power driving our company. To become a great company, we all have to pull together as employees of CSXT." _________ eNjoy
Thanks for the heads-up, Don! Any pics or artist's renditions out there for us to see? (Between you, me & the fencepost, I kinda like the blue, gray & yellow colors myself)
If this comes to pass, everyone will be scrambling for pics of the current paint scheme, as well as first shots of the new one
If you need reference photos for CSX equipment go here for almost 8,000 pics http://www.trainweb.org/csxphotos/html/nojava.html SD50 8503 is the first unit to be repainted. No photos available as yet. eNjoy [ 08 February 2002, 15:55: Message edited by: dbn160 ]
Someone on the Atlas Nscale forum has already taken pics and posted 3 of them there. Not a bad scheme. Mike
I don't like it. If it was a new RR, or NS, I would like it but CSX is getting rid of a really nice scheme for something really plain. Just like what BC Rail did Dane
I think its great that CSX is getting a "NEW" paint scheme, but somehow when I look at it the words" Santa Fe All The Way " come to mind
Well I've given some thought to painting most of my CSX locos to Norfolk Southern. Maybe now would be a good time to do so. I seriously doubt that the penny pinching NS has any plans to repaint their entire fleet any time soon.
I prefer the current "bright future" paint but I must say that the new paintjob is starting to look like that of my Hoffman Valley RR! (Minus the white stripe) Russ
Not too sure what to think about this scheme. Guess I should wait until I see one in person to decide. However, I do think old school Santa Fe or B&O.
